Popular specialty poster-makers, Mondo, the art boutique branch of the famed Alamo Drafthouse cinema, has officially announced a brand new partnership with Sideshow Collectibles to deliver even more of their highly sought after posters.
The first in the series of new posters is inspired from Walt Disney’s Tron universe, with one print devoted to the original film and a second devoted to the brand new sequel, Tron: Legacy, which hits theaters this Friday.
These specialty Tron posters are crafted by artist Eric Tan, and capture both movies in perfect pop cult art harmony. Better yet, both of them glow in the dark!
You can see both of these new Tron posters by clicking on over to the other side now.
Here’s what the artist had to say about the two posters, and his inspiration for their creation:
When creating posters for each of the Tron films, what immediately came to mind were the parallels between the two worlds and how it had progressed over the years. Since similar elements such as disks, light cycles, and recognizers exist in both, I thought showing the contrast between new and old was a visually interesting angle to play up.
Linking the two main characters was something I thought would add to the storytelling and the father/son dynamic between Kevin and Sam Flynn. Since Kevin was the creator of this world, it dawned on me that using the disk as a halo behind him would create an almost god-like presence.
Design-wise, both films have such a unique vision that I thought I couldn’t go wrong by showcasing as many characters, vehicles, and architecture within the layout. To me, those films are amazing examples of visual candy and I hope I was able to capture that in my posters.
As always, the posters will be limited edition (240 available for each), and the 16×24 prints will run you $40 each. They’ll go on sale TODAY, December 16, and you can follow Mondo on Twitter for notice of when they’re officially available for purchase. Variants of them will also be available at a later date at Sideshow Collectibles later on.
