Flashpoint is coming to the DC Universe later this year and it will be the next big event to look forward to. All day today, DC’s blog The Source has been posting a series of teasers that give us a look into what the series will be about. Each image has a slogan that points to an alternate reality for DC’s biggest heroes.
The whole line of teasers is titled “Whatever Happened to the World’s Greatest Super Heroes” (a nod to Alan Moore’s classic Superman story “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow” and Neil Gaiman’s more recent “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader”).
As of this posting four teasers have been released.
Part I: The spaceship never crashed.
Part II: He spends his days running Wayne Casinos.
Part III: They experimented on him in a lab for years.
Part IV: Where is his ring?
Part V: Their marriage was arranged to prevent war.
The title may be a dead giveaway, but the event deals mainly with the Flash, DC’s resident speedster. If you want to get into the story early, definitely check out Flash #8, which focuses on the Flash’s nemesis, Reverse-Flash and his ability to change events by traveling through time. That ability in particular seems to tie into these teasers, and it looks like the story may be of Reverse-Flash going through time eliminating heroes, with the Flash having to fix things.
This is all speculation on my part. What I can tell you for sure is that the miniseries comes out later this year and will be written by Geoff Johns with art by Andy Kubert and it’s going to feature a lot of people running really fast.
Do these hints make you more excited for Flashpoint? I’ve already been excited, because I have loved what Johns and regular artist Francis Manapul have been doing with the Flash book, and I have always been a fan of Kubert so I think the main book of the event is in good hands.
