A new writer is set to take on Summit Entertainment’s remake of the 1986 fantasy favorite, Highlander, which tells the story of a group of immortals who can only kill each other via decapitation, and acquire their foe’s powers whenever they take their life.
The studio has entered into negotiations with Melissa Rosenberg to craft the latest draft of the script, which has seen a few writers work on it already. Rosenberg is best known for her work on The Twilight Saga, where she penned the scripts for Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and both parts of Breaking Dawn
This may make Highlander fans uneasy and worried about a remake they likely don’t even want to see to begin with, but fear not. While the Twilight franchise is a painful blemish on cinematic history, Rosenberg has some much better credits to her name, namely the eleven episodes of Dexter that she has written.
The first attempt at the script was handled by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, followed by another draft by Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Sellek Wibberley.
The Highlander remake has no release date or stars attached yet, but it does have a director in line once the new writer finishes her work. Justin Lin, who’s directed movies like Better Luck Tomorrow, Annapolis, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast and Furious, the upcoming Fast Five, and a few episodes of TV’s Community, is set to helm the flick.

No Sean connery, no Clancy Brown, no Queen music. Yep, suck it will no doubt.

Before we freak out about this because Rosenberg is writing it, let’s remember that for the Twilight scripts, she was writing those based on the source material. A lot of the dialogue from the movie came from the books, as did all the scenarios. Basically, to put it in perspective, she did NOT come up with the idea of sparkling vampires.
In my opinion, Rosenberg did a good job with the material she was given AND she did what was expected of her for the Twilight series.
As this article points out, she’s also wrote a bunch of episodes for Dexter.
With that said, I don’t care if they got the greatest screenwriter ever to write this movie, I still don’t want it. Since it’s coming from Summit, you know they’ll be aiming it at the teen audience, so now we’ll have emo Highlander. It’s just not necessary.
This Movie Does NOT need to be remade and No one could ever do justice to the Kurgen. If something was done as perfect as possible you DONT need to remake it.
If they go ahead and remake this, they should use all of the original actors again; that way it’s just an alternative universe version of the same show.

As long as they don’t follow it up with horrible sequels, I’m in.
Seriously, did anyone actually see 2 and 3 (all the way through)?
I know there are others, but I don’t acknowledge their existence…
The writer is going to gay it up twilight style… no thanks. OH and deleting comments because you do not agree with them = faggotry. Site owner is obviously a twilight-fag.

Ahem, I am the site owner and I definitely don’t appreciate you hurling ‘fag’ and ‘faggotry’ around, yet there’s your comment, plain for all to see, NOT deleted. I didn’t delete any of your comments, although I reserve the right to. You’ve left lots of comments on the site, and looking back I see most of them are on the negative side, but they are there though! No one’s deleted them. So, I’m not sure where the hostility is coming from. And why you’re calling me a ‘twilight-fag’ is unclear, considering this is a news site, not a fan blog, and we report the news. The news here is that the Twilight screenwriter is writing the Highlander remake script, and the writer of this new story said “While the Twilight franchise is a painful blemish on cinematic history” — does that sound like a Twilight-obsessed person to you? And for the record, I don’t HATE Twilight, I just don’t really like it. But that’s irrelevant. Your comment here is baseless.

I don’t care if she worked on Dexter, NO NO NO! First off Highlander does not need to be remade! But who the hell thought to bring anything Twilight related into it?! Blashphemy! Someone’s gonna get alot of hate mail I’m sure.

You totally should delete Lemon Berry’s comments. This person obviously just is here to antagonize and troll. Gosh, who throws around words like that unless they just want attention? Like a child they are, acting up to get attention. <_< But you are the owner so do what you wish. I personally think that "child" needs a spanking. :P

2 was amusing as a “What IF” I have the Renegade version, and it’s changed a bit to make more sense. Though yeah , it still does NOT fit wit the original. 3 was ok in my opinion, though again, if Conner got the Prize in one, wouldn’t that mean he had defeated the last imortal? Sure new ones can awaken, but that magician dude was buried for like a hundred years! He was still there when Conner defeated the guy in the first one! So yeah, still not quite making sense, but it was better than 2 and fit better otherwise. Endgame was very good in my opinion as well, it was great to see Duncan and Conner together again, (aside from briefly in the series). The last one,”The Source” not so great..pretty weak.

It might not suck too bad. I, for one, am going to keep an open mind. She might not even be the final writer on it, either, so who knows?

…yeah it’s gonna suck.
