According to the trades, and interesting new project is beginning to take form for Warner Brothers.

It’s being reported that none other than Tim Burton, director of movies like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, and Alice in Wonderland is helping to develop a new film adaptation of the 1831 Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

On top of that, Josh Brolin, star of The Goonies, Milk, No Country For Old Men, and True Grit is also helping to develop with Burton.

Brolin will also be producing and starring in the movie, though it’s unclear what role he would be playing. Burton is about to get to work on Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp, so it’s still unclear whether he’ll have the chance to direct Hunchback as well. That decision will come after the director has read a script.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been adapted numerous times over the years, and tells the story of a deformed man known as Quasimodo who lives in the bell tower of a cathedral and eventually falls deeply in love with a gypsy woman named Esmerelda.

So if this movie does in fact get a greenlight and Burton decides to direct, how long will it take before Helena Bonham Carter grabs the Esmerelda role?
