Geeks of Doom is back in San Diego this weekend to cover all the best of Comic-Con International 2011. First of all, don’t let the lack of support from major movie studios make you think there isn’t anything exciting going on, because there is.
Photos from the Convention Floor
While Marvel may have canceled its plans to hold a panel on its new movies, the house of ideas is well represented on the convention floor. The company set up a full scale replica of a S.H.I.E.L.D. ready room, with agents stationed on either side and a beautiful The Avengers movie logo hanging from the top.
There’s also some ridiculously morbid television shows that went the extra mile to give fans excellent photo opportunities. The folks from Spartacus built a scene from the show, complete with decapitated head and roman pillars. But better than that, The Walking Dead has the familiar rooftop scene set up. The door is chained up while hordes of zombie limbs are poking out and pushing the door ajar. (It’s super creepy and we have video we’ll post of it.)
Tons of Television Coverage
Comic-Con is all about premium TV content this year and Geeks of Doom is planning to post coverage of most of it. Seriously, there are tons of TV cast panels, like Game of Thrones, True Blood, Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Ash, Community, Eureka, and several more.
This is also the first Comic-Con appearance of the new Doctor Who cast. The show panel includes stars Matt Smith (The Doctor) and Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) alongside show writer Toby Whithouse and executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis. Also from the Whovian universe is Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. Captain Jack Harkness himself, John Barrowman is back in San Diego talking about the show’s new Miracle Day series that’s currently airing on Starz here in America.
Comic Book Coverage
With DC in the middle of a huge relaunch of all of its major titles, fans are understandably nervous and seeking answers. Comic-Con will be the first public appearance by DC’s editorial staff where fans can ask those questions. Geeks of Doom’s CultureSmash will be in the thick of it all weekend reporting what’s said by both sides — not to mention what else is in store for the DC Universe.
And of course, we’ll be keeping our eyes on new plans from Marvel, Dark Horse, Image, Boom Studios, IDW and more.
Movies
We may not be getting a glimpse at the hottest new super-hero flicks, like The Dark Knight Rises, Superman and The Avengers. However, we will get to hear about The Amazing Spider-Man, Fright Night, Total Recall, Raven, Snow White and the Huntsmen, Underworld, and The Immortals. Oh, and our fearless editor will brave the camped-out line for the panel for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.
Wifi is notoriously often at the convention center, but we’ll be posting plenty of pics from the Con floor, as well as the panels, along with some video, so check back soon and often here at Geeks of Doom over the next few days.
