Week of Geek: SDCC 2011 Coverage - San Diego Comic Con

SDCC 2011: 30 Minutes or Less: Aziz Ansari

Perhaps the funniest panel of this year’s Comic–Con, 30 Minutes or Less was part of Sony’s presentation and featured director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and stars Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, and Michael Pena.

The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg as a pizza boy who runs into a couple of criminal types (Swardson and Danny McBride) who decide to strap a bomb to his chest and force him to rob a bank for them, forcing him to go to his best friend (Ansari) for help.

Keep reading for more from the panel, and of course, to see some images from the panel.

Unfortunately neither Eisenberg or McBride could make it, but Danny did record a funny video for the panel where he basically makes fun of his co–stars (In true Kenny Powers fashion) and declares that if we’re watching his video, “the apes have won.” Fleischer says Eisenberg is busy shooting a Woody Allen movie, while McBride is shooting season 3 of Eastbound & Down.

Next a bit of footage was shown. If you’ve seen the trailer for the movie (head down to August 12) then you probably know about the bank robbing scene, and it was this scene that was shown in–full. And everyone laughed. A lot.

A lot of the panel involved questions about other projects the various talents have been involved in. Fleischer says he’d love to do a Zombieland 2, but he has no idea when that would be because everyone is so busy with other stuff. Ansari said all of the guys from Human Giant are doing their own thing at the moment and there isn’t any plans for a reunion at the moment.

Apparently Eisenberg did all of his own stunts, and is quite the stunt driver as well. Whodathunkit?

Fleischer also said that the DVD of the movie will have a ton of deleted scenes on it. They wanted to make it a quick flick that wasn’t drawn out too much, so a lot of stuff had to meet the knife. Good news for anyone who really enjoys special features, though!
