My hat goes off to creative team of Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris #8. This team consistently turns out one of the most fun comics on the stands today. And it’s a shame that more people aren’t reading it. TONS of action, fighting, heroics, and more crammed into each issue!
Writer Arivd Nelson sure knows how to write women. These aren’t the standard “women with a grudge against all men” either. They’re solid characters, full of life and personality who just happen to be members of the fairer sex.
Nelson turns out an adventure tale that’s got everything you’d want-treasure hunting, pirates, action, fighting, sword-play, and an air of mystery about a few of the characters. I didn’t really ever see myself caring about ancient Martian artifacts and their origins, but Nelson MAKES me care. Very well written and solid script.
To artist Carlos Rafael, I can only say this-PLEASE don’t ever stop drawing women. EVER! Rafael impresses by being an artist who can draw both great looking woman and also normal looking men. A lot of times an artist can do one, but not the other. Plus, he’s just an all around good artist. Nice backgrounds, decent looking machinery, great action pages. I hope he stays on this title for the foreseeable future.
If you want to sit down and just be entertained with a comic book, then grab this one. This is a fantastic comic, and you won’t regret it. The only warning I have is that this is NOT a comic that you should give your little brother or sister, niece or nephew or anyone under the age of about 17 to look at. This is definitely a comic for us big kids.
