David Gordon Green

David Gordon Green‘s Your Highness and The Sitter may have looked good on the surface, but the overall product failed to impress its audience. So the filmmaker is taking a departure from directing original comedies to directing adaptations. According to Deadline, Green will start off by taking on a big-screen adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s popular book Little House on the Prairie for Sony Pictures.

Wilder’s Little House series consists of semi-autobiographical books based on her life with her family in 19th century America. Though there were many made for TV adaptations and miniseries – there was even an animated series – its most popular adaptation came in the 1974-1984 televised series starting Michael Landon.

Mockingjay

The first part of The Hunger Games trilogy featured the writing talents of Gary Ross, Suzanne Collins, and Billy Ray. Catching Fire, the second part (to be directed by Francis Lawrence), features a draft penned by Slumdog Millionaire screenwriter Simon Befouy and rewrites by Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt. While it’s very likely that Lionsgate will hire a new director for Mockingjay, the studio has already hired a screenwriter to adapt the third and final part of The Hunger Games trilogy. Word is that Lionsgate is hiring Game Change and Recount wrtier Danny Strong to pen the draft for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & Part 2.

Variety’s report confirms that the studio will be changing writers for the third act of the trilogy. Strong, who has written two powerful political pieces for HBO Films, Recount and Game Change, has already turned in a script for Lee Daniel’s upcoming historical drama The Butler. Strong already has an impressive track record for writing quality scripts. His two political pieces have won a number of Emmys. Daniels’ is also using his script for the upcoming political drama The Butler, starring Forest Whitaker.

Disney will be releasing Tim Burton‘s latest stop-motion animated feature Frankenweenie this Friday. So to mark the special occasion, the studio has unveiled six vintage posters inspired by some of the great horror movie classics. Well, this is what happens when a comic Kickstarter project makes a hundred grand. Back in August of last year artist Renae De Liz (IDW’s The Last Unicorn) put out her proposed Womanthology book, featuring a wide array of female writers and artists. Working off the theme of Heroic, it managed to make over four times its goal of $25,000, sending the message that there’s a strong demand for more venues where women can showcase their work in the field. IDW got the message loud and clear.

The sequel, Womanthology: Space, features stories about filling empty rooms with furniture and accutrements.

Wow, what a terrible joke… sorry – it’s a smorgasbord of rockets, alien planets, and journeys to the stars. Jumping from sub-genre to sub-genre (space drama to space parody to space horror, etc.) and art styles, this first issue shares a playfulness akin to your average Heavy Metal, with, naturally, the testosterone notched down a bit. Editor Mariah Huehner has curated a book showcasing women doing so much of what really talented men do well in comics.
