Apparently yesterday’s set of photos from Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger were just a tease. Aside from the traditional character photos, they featured some epic Southwest landscapes, and one large locomotive. Now a new set of photos focusing on stars Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp have appeared online. While one of the photos does bare some resemblance to the first official photo release, the following ones tell us a very different story. Check out these new photos plus the first official poster below.

The Shadow #5 is the penultimate chapter in the first arc of this title, and for me, it’s gone a little downhill since the begining. What started off really strong has kind of petered out a little. Bottom line, the story arc is a little messy and the book suffers for it. Yes, Garth Ennis is a legend in the comic book business. But, even superstars can slip up now and then. I LOVED the first few issues of this title, it was everything that I wanted it to be. You had The Shadow fighting crime in 1930s New York City. You had ALL the trademark Shadow standards, and it was entertaining beyond reason. Then, Ennis decided to take The Shadow OUT of his element and into a globetrotting adventure ala Indiana Jones, and, it just didn’t work as well as the first few issues. What you’ve got now is a very confusing story, that really isn’t a SHADOW story. You could plop any pulp character in there and it would work just as well, and that’s a shame.

The success of The Avengers opened the door for bold new possibilities for the Marvel franchise. Phase 2 is already getting underway with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World shooting, and Joss Whedon signed an exclusive contract that allows him to creatively consult for the studio until 2015. Now a lot can happen in two full years. But perhaps one of the biggest things, aside from directing The Avengers 2, is the fact that he will be a producer of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show that will air on ABC sometime in the very near future. Up until now, we only knew that he would be directing the pilot, but now a new character description sheet has been revealed. This sheet details the agents you will be seeing on the show. Check it out here below.

| It’s ‘Battle Royale’ Meets ‘Secret Wars’ In Marvel’s ‘Avengers Arena’ |

Looks like Marvel is doing their own spin on a Battle Royale story crossed with Secret Wars called Avengers Arena. In case you don’t know Battle Royale is a near classic Japanese sci-fi/thriller about a future where bad kids are dropped in an arena of sorts to battle to the death. Secret Wars is of course an iconic Marvel Comics series from the 80s where the all-powerful Beyonder assembled a group of Marvel heroes and villains on a distant planet to also do battle to the death. If you combine these two stories you get fairly close to where this new Marvel NOW! ongoing book is headed. Avengers Arena comes from the creative team of writer Dennis Hopeless (X-Men: Season One) and artist Kev Walker (Thunderbolts), who will be introducing some all-new characters which Marvel describes “the enigmatic Deathlocket and the mysterious Braddock Academy.” Check out the full synopsis and cover for Avengers Arena #1 here below.
