It’s been more than seven years since Vin Diesel last put on the goggles and black wife beater to play the dangerous and resourceful criminal anti-hero with exceptional night vision that helped make him an unlikely movie star. Now production has began on Riddick and Diesel has posted the first photo of himself in costume from the film’s set on his Facebook Page.
You can check out the image here below.
It looks like Diesel is in full Necromonger Lord Marshal garb, which is in keeping with early reviews of the Riddick script that would wrap up the plot thread hinted at the end of the character’s last cinematic outing, 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick. Originally Diesel and writer-director David Twohy had intended for Chronicles to be the first in an epic trilogy but the film’s box office failure put the kibosh on those plans. But the subsequent popularity of the film on cable and DVD inspired Twohy and his star to attempt a scaled-back approach to a new Riddick adventure more along the lines of Pitch Black, the sci-fi thriller from 2000 that introduced the character.
Despite some financial difficulties prior to the start of production the independently financed Riddick is going full-speed ahead. I look forward to further adventures of the genre’s best badass antihero since Snake Plissken.
