Once upon a time (the late 1990s to be exact) Will Smith was not only the Fresh Prince, but he was also the king of the summer movie season – for two summers. Then came Wild Wild West. Ever since, Big Willie has been continuing to rack up the blockbusters while attempting to dominate different seasons that don’t involve millions of people suddenly deciding to go to the beach.
This summer, Smith is mounting an offensive to reclaim his summer movie king throne with the belated sequel Men in Black 3. Today, a full theatrical trailer has been released. You can watch it here below.
I don’t know how many of you have been clamoring for another Men in Black sequel, but you couldn’t count me among those numbers. I loved the first movie and the first sequel from 2002 had some funny moments even though it wasn’t a relentless hoot like the original. Men in Black 3 looks to be more of the same, only with more alien creatures getting blasted into goo puddles. I suspect that Josh Brolin will end up stealing the movie as a young version of Tommy Lee Jones‘ character Agent K; he completely nails Jones’ voice, mannerisms, and deadpan humor.
Presenting the plot synopsis of Men in Black 3, brought to by Yahoo!:
“Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him “” secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.”
Not getting much face time in the trailer is the movie’s alien villain Boris, played by Flight of the Conchords star Jermaine Clement, other than a brief shot of him from behind. The big-budget sequel also stars Emma Thompson, Alice Eve, Michael Stuhlbarg, and (in a bid to make the movie seem dated before it hits theaters) Nicole Scherzinger. Looks like Rip Torn’s recent legal problems prevented him from reprising his role from the first two movies as Zed. He really will be missed.
