New ‘Men In Black’ Trilogy In The Works

Right out of the gate Sony has shown interest in bringing back Men in Black as a trilogy. The original film was a huge success, but it would be five years before Men in Black II was released, and another 10 years before Men in Black III would hit theaters.
It doesn’t seem like the studio will repeat the same process anytime soon, and have turned to married producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald to relaunch the franchise as a trilogy. But it doesn’t look like Will Smith will be returning in any sort of capacity, producing or otherwise. More on this story below.

Watch Now: ‘Men In Black 3’ Gets A New Theatrical Trailer

Once upon a time (the late 1990s to be exact) Will Smith was not only the Fresh Prince, but he was also the king of the summer movie season – for two summers. Then came Wild Wild West. Ever since, Big Willie has been continuing to rack up the blockbusters while attempting to dominate different seasons that don’t involve millions of people suddenly deciding to go to the beach.
This summer, Smith is mounting an offensive to reclaim his summer movie king throne with the belated sequel Men in Black 3. Today, a full theatrical trailer has been released. You can watch it here below.

In this second sequel to Men In Black, Will Smith returns as galaxy defender Agent J reuniting with his MIB partner Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones). But this time around, something’s gone wrong and J must travel back in time, where he teams up with K’s younger self (Josh Brolin).

UPDATED! Will ‘Men In Black 3’ Add Josh Brolin To The Team?
|
 |

UPDATE: It looks like Mr. Brolin would indeed be playing a younger version of Jones’ K, with Will Smith’s J heading back in time somehow. To be fair, anything can work if handled properly, but at the moment, I for one am not a fan of this. Time travel is a gimmick and people don’t enjoy it unless it’s important enough to the story and if the reason for it makes sense. We’ve never seen time travel in Men in Black, so they would have to have a really cool reason for doing it. Does this mean that Jones isn’t coming back and they just wanted to retain the character?
Hero Complex has received word that Sony is considering Josh Brolin for a role in Men in Black III. No word yet on who the No Country For Old Men and Milk star would be playing in the movie, but whispers say that he could play a new recruit that one of MiB’s finest would have to train OR that he could be a younger Tommy Lee Jones character, though this is all speculation.
Men in Black III has not officially been greenlit yet, but they did hire Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder) to get the script written. All signs so far point to Will Smith being prepped and ready to return to the franchise if the ignition is fired up, but the return of Jones is still a big question mark.
