Marion Cotillard Says She’s NOT Playing Talia Al Ghul In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

A shroud of secrecy always surrounds movies such as The Dark Knight Rises. There are always those annoying rumors that swirl around that says this actor will play this character. Of course those who are in the cast cannot elaborate on whom they will be playing because studios have highly trained snipers pointing a red dot at their forehead.
So these actors either go with a diverting ploy or just flat out deny that they are not playing whomever they are rumored to play – which is fine. But the worst thing they can do is lie. Such as that with Marion Cotillard, who has said that she is playing Talia AL Ghul in the past, is now “confirming” that she will NOT play the daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul – who will be played by a returning Liam Neeson.
Here is what The Hollywood Reporter is reporting:
All she’ll confirm is that, contrary to some fans’ belief, she does not play Talia, the vengeful daughter of Liam Neeson’s character, Ra’s Al Ghul (who also appeared in Batman Begins), and that she takes the role of Miranda Tate, an ecologically minded businesswoman who “is fascinated by Wayne Enterprises. They go through difficulties, and she wants to help provide the world clean energies. She’s a good guy.” But does she stay that way? “Yes,” she insists.
So for an actress to be playing a businesswoman who says she has no business being in a evil-purging cult like The League of Shadows, Cotillard dresses like she belongs in one (take a look at the headline photo). Being in the Tumbler certainly does not help your case.
So why the lies? Perhaps it’s just lip service or just protecting the spirit of the movie until it’s released, whatever it is it isn’t necessary. Here’s the thing, when a question like this comes up, it’s probably best to say “No Comment.” This is a much better response than flat out lying.
Of course if she isn’t lying, then I will probably have to eat my words. But her riding in a Tumbler, some of her fashion sense, and the return of Liam Neeson lead me to believe that she is playing Talia Al Ghul.
