Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for Ruben Flischer‘s period piece crime drama Gangster Squad. The film touts an ecliptic cast that consists of Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Bryan Cranston, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, and more. The Gangster Squad is set in the 1940s and will focus on a special task force specifically designed to stop L.A.’s most notorious gangsters.
The movie looks visually appealing. Everything from the fashion to the set pieces looks absolutely incredible. And when all of that is backed by the aforementioned names, you have all the ingredients for an incredible movie. I especially love the look and feel of the of the artwork that appears up on Apple. It definitely pays homage to the art and style of the 1940s. You can check out the trailer below.
Although WB has finally released the trailer, the Gangster Squad doesn’t have a release date yet, though many suspect that the film could hit theaters in the fall.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop”¦except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
