Having already adapted the 1980s film Teen Wolf into a successful TV series, MTV is now setting their sights on another popular movie, or movie franchise to be more precise. According to the TVLine, MTV will now be turning the Scream film franchise into a televised series. The report does not mention if Scream creator Wes Craven will be a part of the creative process, but one would hope he would be brought in at least to consult on the series itself.
Each and every one of the Scream movies had Neve Campbell‘s character Sidney Prescott being attacked by different killers wearing the same hooded Ghostface mask. And each and every one of those films brought the elements of the horror genre past and present into real life world. It’s not known if MTV will follow the same formula used in the films or even if they will use the same characters, but based on how many horror films are out there and how many will come to pass, there’s a lot of material that MTV could use as inspiration for a couple of episodes. Just don’t expect Emmy-nominated material, in fact, think more along the lines of the Teen Choice Awards.
MTV executives Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are behind the project and no formal cast as been announced. Should this be yet another success for MTV, we could see them adapting more films into a television format.
