Be Here Now

If you’re like me, you were absolutely stunned to discover that Andy Whitfield, the 39-year-old star of the hit Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, had lost his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Obviously any type of cancer is a very serious thing, but all hopes were that Whitfield would find a way to beat the disease.

What we didn’t know, however, is that Whitfield’s battle was being documented by Lilibet Foster (Academy Award nominee for 1999’s Speaking in Strings) in hopes of creating something special to inspire people who are in similar fights to the one Andy faced, and everyone else to get out there and live life to the fullest every single day.

The title of the documentary is Be Here Now, and you learn more about it and watch a trailer below.

M83

Joseph Kosinski knows how to pick his composers. When Kosinski made his directorial debut with Tron: Legacy, he brought in the electronica duo Daft Punk to add the musical spark of life to the film. In fact it was Daft Punk’s music that was the most memorial parts of the movie.

Now Kosinski is setting up for his next feature, Oblivion. Filming has already begun with Tom Cruise taking the lead as a repairman who starts to question everything he knows when he comes across a mysterious pod with a live woman inside of it.

Not only do we have an updated synopsis of the film you can read below, but we now know that M83 will be conducting the score for the film.

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Could Be Marvel’s Mystery Film
space

Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel still has a vacant May 16th 2014 release on their slate. With Captain America 2 taking a very surprising April 4th 2014 release, there was some speculation that the film taking the May 2014 date would be either Guardians of the Galaxy, or Edgar Wright’s long-gestating Ant-Man.

Then came word that the the studio was working on a movie for Black Panther. While that hasn’t been confirmed, Marvel seems to be setting their sights on Guardians of the Galaxy, which would be just one of the stepping stones that lead up to The Avengers 2.

$5 MP3 Album Deal: Bush ‘The Sea of Memories’
space
The Book Slave   |

Bush - The Sea of Memories

As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deal for June 2012, Bush‘s The Sea of Memories is on sale for only $5.

If you would like a physical copy of The Sea of Memories, the CD is available for only $13.03.

Bush is one of those bands that gets lumped into the mid-90’s post-grunge commercial hard rock sack. Not that they were a bad band, I mean, who doesn’t automatically sing Machinehead when it comes on in Modell’s? The Sea of Memories is Bush’s fifth studio album, recorded ten years after their last one, Golden State, following an eight year breakup. It’s not a bad little album, actually, as it doesn’t stray too far from Sixteen Stone, the group’s very popular debut album.

Browse the main sale page to see the other 99 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of June 2012.

Interview: Matt Kindt, Writer and Artist For ‘Mind MGMT’
space
Spartacus!   |

2012-06-11 Mind MGMTYou’re on an airplane and you suddenly forget who you are. And it’s not just you; the stewardess, the guy next to you, the whole plane, including the pilots, have all forgotten who they are and what they’re doing there. This is the imagery that opens Dark Horse’s new ongoing series, Mind MGMT.

Written and drawn by Matt Kindt , a master of off-beat espionage storytelling, Mind MGMT tells the story of Meru, an investigative reporter and bestselling author who delves into a fact-finding mission to uncover what cause of the strange flight, a journey that will take her across the world and across the path of dangerous rogue mentalists.

Depending on who you ask, Kindt (3 Story, Super Spy) is either one of the most indie guys working in mainstream comics or one of the most kick-ass dudes working in indie comics. We chatted with him about his career, doing his first monthly title and hiding Easter Eggs on his pages.

Geeks of Doom: So much of the story is about memory, how did you approach exploring memory and the loss of it in the comic book medium?

Matt Kindt: I feel like I’m always tackling memory in every book I’ve done in some way or another. Usually it’s because that’s how I’m trying to think of how my own memory works. What do I remember? Why do I remember that? That kind of thing.
