Q, the aging techie/gadget support man in the James Bond franchise was clearly absent in the last two films. Now Sam Mendes is bringing him back for Skyfall, only he will be a little bit younger than most James Bond fans remember.
In the film, Q will be played by Ben Whishaw, and you can check out the first full image of him as the popular character below.
Q was played by four different actors in the past. Peter Burton was the first actor to bring the character to life. Desmond Lleweyln, who played as Q for every James Bond film – except Live and Let Die – until The World Is Not Enough, succeeded him. The torch was then passed on to John Cleese who played the character for only two films.
Now it’s Whishaw’s job to keep the spirit of Q alive. Will we see that same witty banter between Q and Bond, or will Mendes tone it down and make a more serious Q? Don’t hold your breath because we probably won’t be seeing any kind of exchange from the two in any trailer. At least I hope we don’t.
But the pic clearly shows what Mendes is trying to do with the character.
Skyfall stars Daniel Craig as James Bond, and Judi Dench as M. They are joined by Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, Helen McCrory, and Ola Rapace.
The movie opens in theaters on November 9, 2012.
