If you’re heading to Universal Orlando Resort or Universal Studios Hollywood this fall season, one of the attractions worth seeking out is Halloween Horror Nights, the embodiment of all things Halloween where movies, your worst nightmares, and other inspirations are used to build intensely terrifying attractions for visitors to experience.
This year marks a big first for Halloween Horror Nights with the announcement that AMC’s hit zombie drama The Walking Dead is making its debut, the first time a TV show has been featured.
Continue reading for more information and to see a video of the announcement below.
Despite what you might be thinking, this doesn’t mean a simple haunted house with some zombies. The goal is to accurately replicate some of the sets and locations seen in seasons one and two of The Walking Dead so that fans of the show can step out of reality and into the horrors they’ve only watched on their TV screens.
Here’s what show executive producer and special effects whiz Greg Nicotero said about the announcement:
“We want people to experience the same terror of the walker-filled reality our characters faced in seasons one and two – and will continue to face in our third season. Our collaboration with Universal Studios’ creative teams is exciting as we work to truly capture the essence of the show.”
John Murdy, Creative Director at Universal Studios Hollywood also added:
“With “˜The Walking Dead,’ we want to make fans of the series feel like they are literally walking in the footsteps of the show’s characters, experiencing all of the horrific events from the series just as they experienced them.
The goal is to make guests of Halloween Horror Nights feel like they are trapped in the world of “˜The Walking Dead,’ using all of the attention to detail and movie-quality production values that Halloween Horror Nights has become famous for. You’re no longer sitting on a couch, watching a show”¦you’re living it!”
