Star Trek: The Next Generation star Sir Patrick Stewart, who happens to just be awesome in general, carried the Olympic Torch on July 23, 2012, through parts of Croydon, South London.
Watch video here below of Stewart carrying the torch on Day 66 of the relay, as well as talking about his experience as a torchbearer.
The 72-year-old actor, who also appears in the X-Men films as Professor Xavier, said that “nothing compared” to his experience as Olympic torchbearer and mentioned remembering the London Olympics that took place after World War II.
Stewart is one of 8,000 people who were selected to carry the Olympic Flame for the London 2012 Olympics. The Flame kicked off its 70-day journey at the Land’s End Signpost in Cornwall on May 19 and will end its long trek throughout the UK on July 27. Other notable torchbearers for this year’s Olympics are X-Men: First Class star James McAvoy, Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith, Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am, Spice Girl Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm, and coming up will be Harry Potter star Rupert Grint.
