We’ve seen many of the cherished cartoons we used to get up early on Saturday mornings, big bowl of cereal in hand, to enjoy get turned into hybrid movies, fusing CGI animation together with live-action characters.

Now comes word that another nostalgic favorite, this time of the live-action variety, will be getting the CGI/live-action treatment.

It’s being reported that Jordan Kerner, producer of The Smurfs adaptation, is now working on a new movie based on the hit TV series ALF. The show told the story of an alien who crashed on Earth and was taken in to live with a normal everyday American family.

The movie is set up at the same studio as The Smurfs, Sony Pictures Animation, with no writers or directors currently attached to the project.

The one good bit of news here is that Paul Fusco, one of the show’s creators and the man who voiced ALF in his true puppet form, is also expected to voice this false computer animated reincarnation of the beloved character.

Fusco will also produce the new movie along with Kerner and fellow show creator Tom Patchett.

What do you think of ALF getting a CGI makeover for a new live-action movie?
