Never in my wildest dreams would I have put Robert Pattinson and Lawrence of Arabia in the same sentence. Well today is the day that wild and crazy dream comes true, because Pattinson is now attached to play T.E. Lawrence, a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia, in Werner Herzog‘s Gertrude Bell biopic, Queen of the Desert.
Pattinson will co-star alongside Naomi Watts, who will play Bell. The movie will chronicle the history of Bell, who was a woman of many skills which included a writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attache for the British Empire.
Lawrence was a British Officer, whose passion and diplomacy for the desert earned him the name of Lawrence of Arabia.
History tells us that Lawrence and Bell were friends and that the two helped establish the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq. So Pattinson’s casting tells us that his role won’t be a cameo.
Cassian Elwes and Nick Raslan (Herzog’s Rescue Dawn) are producing the pic, which is aiming to start production in late fall.
Audiences will be able to see Pattinson in a very dangerous and daring role when Cosompolis opens in theaters August 17th, this Friday.
So do you think Pattinson has what it takes to become T.E. Lawrence?
