The Mandalorian

This is a pretty big week for Disney. The entertainment giant launched Disney+, their exclusive streaming service, nationwide yesterday. Of course, we all know how subscribers have access to nearly the entire Disney vault. But there is also some original content to look forward to. Like The Mandalorian. The highly anticipated series made its debut to coincide with the launch. And yet, if you are still not a subscriber or are not convinced to be one, maybe a clip from the series will change your mind.

Pulled from the series’ first episode, the clip shows the titular character (Pedro Pascal) meet The Client (Werner Herzog), a man who is in need of his services for some unknown reason. He is also someone who has a very intimidating presence, and is guarded by a small group of Stormtroopers, who are armed to the teeth. Not that scares our anti-hero. Check out the clip below, along with a recently released special look video.

The Mandalorian Star Wars

Rumors surrounding the casting of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, the studio’s first live-action Star Wars series, have been circulating for the past few weeks. Pedro Pascal was named as the titular lone gunfighter who “travels to the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” And now, there is confirmation.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Pascal will be playing as that lone gunfighter. And he won’t be alone. He will be joined by the already confirmed Gina Carano (Deadpool) and Nick Nolte (Affliction). Additionally, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) will be joining the cast as well. More on the report, below.

Jack Reacher PosterJack Reacher
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie
Written by Christopher McQuarrie
Starring: Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Werner Herzog
Paramount Pictures
Rated PG-13 | 130 minutes
Release Date: December 21st, 2012

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Jack Reacher is based on Lee Child‘s 2005 novel, One Shot.

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all the evidence points to suspect James Barr (Joseph Sikora), an ex-Army sniper with a history of violence.

During interrogation, Barr offers up only a single note: “Get Jack Reacher.” Enter Reacher (Tom Cruise), a drifter and former Military Police Officer who makes it his business to right wrongs and be an all-around bad-ass.

Working as an investigator for Barr’s defense attorney, Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike), Reacher begins to unravel a case involving a hired killer and a Russian known only as “The Zec,” played by German director Werner Herzog (Aguirre: The Wrath of God, Grizzly Man).

Herzog is perfect for the role: the director has made a career out of muttering about death and the chaotic indifference of nature, so it’s only natural his character would order a low-level thug to bite off his own thumb or get shot in the head. I imagine Herzog acts completely the same when working with actors or documentary subjects.

Jack Reacher is an above-average crime thriller from another era. It feels like ’40s pulp noir at times, with hard-boiled dialogue and staff action sequences including an impressive car chase straight out of ’70s cinema. Cruise, as always, is able to convince the audience that he is who he says he is. By doing all of his own stunts, Cruise inhabits his roles in the way that few Hollywood stars can.

Robert Pattinson

Never in my wildest dreams would I have put Robert Pattinson and Lawrence of Arabia in the same sentence. Well today is the day that wild and crazy dream comes true, because Pattinson is now attached to play T.E. Lawrence, a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia, in Werner Herzog‘s Gertrude Bell biopic, Queen of the Desert.

Pattinson will co-star alongside Naomi Watts, who will play Bell. The movie will chronicle the history of Bell, who was a woman of many skills which included a writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attache for the British Empire.
