Each and every week “Soul Eater” MK2Fac3 and “One Piece” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 22, 2012. It’s kind of a small list this week with the end of one book and the start of another, with a collection of one of the best books of the year that you may have missed. MK2Fac3 is still away at Wrestling Fantasy Camp. He’s still working on the world’s most perfect figure four leg lock and he still hasn’t quite got it right yet. He is a slave to his craft and he needs all of his focus, so it’s just Henchman flying solo again. But you don’t need to hear about our respective tales of woe, you’re here for comics, and that’s what we’ve got. Let’s go.

Issues:

Scalped #60 (DC/Vertigo Comics – $2.99) Well, Scalped comes to an end with this issue, and”¦ well I’m not sure exactly because I read Scalped in trades and I’m a little behind. That said, this is still a milestone issue, bringing to a close one of the best series of the last decade. Jason Aaron has created an amazing series about life on a corrupt Native American reservation. He has created a cast of compelling, flawed characters that readers have come to love despite their flaws. Each issue found a way to amp up the excitement and intrigue and I don’t think anyone knows quite how this series is going to end. Artist R.M. Guera has been consistently excellent and has a great knack for faces and action. And then there are the covers by Jock, which deserve their own separate collection. It’s always an astounding feat when a series runs for this long, and it’s a little sad to know that Jason Aaron is only working on superhero work at the moment. I hope that he returns to this kind of material before too long, because as good as he is at superhero work, he’s just as good if not better at this kind of stuff. Scalped is one of those series that people will be talking about for years, and it has earned every bit of praise heaped upon it.

Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom #1 (of 4) (IDW Publishing – $3.99) IDW is back with more Rocketeer action, moving the character from their anthology series into his own full-length miniseries. The action comes to us from writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee. Waid brings us the further adventures of Cliff Secord as he investigates a mysterious ship that docks in Los Angeles from a far off location. The ship is carrying some kind of cargo, and it’s up to the Rocketeer to protect the people. Waid is the perfect writer for this series, bringing the right flare of old school sensibility mixed with modern flare. Chris Samnee brings his unique cartooney style to the series, and I can’t wait to see what he does with it. There’s a lot to enjoy here for fans of action and adventure, so make sure you buy this book.

Trades:

Prophet, Volume 1: Remission (Image Comics – $9.99) There are lots of excellent trades out this week, including Grant Morrison’s Invisibles Omnibus, the second hardcover collecting Jason Aaron’s Wolverine run, and third paperback of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World stories. But the one I want to bring to your attention is Prophet volume 1. This volume collects the first six issues of Brandon Graham relaunch of Prophet, and his work here takes the original concept in a vastly different direction. Graham’s Prophet is the story of a man on a mission in a world he doesn’t understand. Roy and his collaborators have created a strange future with weird aliens and technology. The world feels very real, despite all the crazy crap going on and it’s a credit to the creators that they can make a world so inviting while being so unique. Also, at $9.99, the price for this collection can’t be beat. Prophet is sci-fi at its best!
