Ever since the Fast and Furious franchise shifted its gears from street racing to high-speed heists, there has been a lack of high-octane street racing films. Sure enough DreamWorks will fill that void by adapting the very popular street racing video game Need for Speed. The studio was even thinking about making this a starring vehicle for Liam Hemsworth.
But with Hemsworth’s stock being as high as it is, I imagine DreamWorks would have a difficult time signing the actor on for a possible film franchise. A new report from Deadline says that DreamWorks and Act of Valor director Scott Waugh will no longer pursue Hemsworth as a possible lead. Instead they are going to test younger unknown actors to take the part. The report says that the two people on the top of their list are Home and Away stars Brenton Thwaites and Luke Bracey.
Thwaites, who hails from Australia – just like Hemsworth does – will star alongside Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning in Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent. Bracey, who is also Australian, may not have an upcoming role in tentpole film, but younger female audiences may recognize him for his role in Monte Carlo.
Which one of the two do you think deserves the part?
