James Cameron

Battle Angel fans won’t be happy with what James Cameron could possibly direct after the Avatar sequels. Despite some of the difficulties that he has experienced writing the Avatar sequels, Cameron has just purchased the rights to Taylor StevensThe Informationist. THR was the first to report on Cameron’s latest acquisition, but without actually knowing which direction Cameron is headed towards after the Avatar sequels, it will be hard to know if he will direct Battle Angel first or if he will direct The Informationist first.

Check out a short synopsis of Stevens’ series of novels and a couple of quotes from the press release below.

According to THR, Cameron was the only one in the running to purchase the movie rights. Now that is not saying that no one really wanted it, it’s just saying that he just wanted to secure the rights to the film before there would be a tug-of-war.

Vanessa “Michael” Munroe grew up alongside missionary parents in Africa and has earned the respect of various gunrunners and mercenaries. However after building a reputation with these dangerous men, Munroe decides to settle down and start a new life in Dallas, Texas, where she deals in information””expensive information””working for corporations, heads of state, private clients, and anyone else who can pay for her unique brand of expertise. However a Texas oil billionaire has hired her to find his daughter who vanished in Africa four years ago. On her trip back to her homeland, Munroe finds herself betrayed, cut off from civilization, and left for dead. If she has any hope of escaping the jungle and the demons that drive her, she must come face-to-face with the past that she’s tried for so long to forget.

At least we know that Cameron was kidding when he said he would direct nothing but Avatar films. There is no doubt that Cameron has some affinity towards strong female characters. Obviously since this is a series of novels, building a film franchise based on Munroe and her precarious situations seems inevitable.

What does this mean for Battle Angel? Well based on previous comments, the film is coming, it’s just a matter of when we hear confirmation that Cameron will direct it.
