Remembering Guitarist Jimi Hendrix On What Would Have Been His 70th Birthday

Jimi Hendrix

Today marks what would have been the 70th birthday of Jimi Hendrix, the pioneering guitar player who singlehandedly changed every conceivable facet, approach, and style that existed before he got his hands on the instrument, and once he did, he foraged a universe in which millions traveled to, in which, led by Hendrix, one could attempt to attack the guitar as he did with a frighteningly bold and original tackling to break every single convention that stood firmly lodged in place before him and inventing new ones for those to follow for now and forever.

The electric guitar was mainly a still new instrument by the time Jimi Hendrix first picked it up and discovered what it could do and there were still musical rules and regulations being invented as it went along. Hendrix took those rules and regulations and put them through a metaphorical sifter, found the diamonds in the rubble, and then blues fried them on a skillet. The result is (still) some of the most electrified and stunningly dazzling rock and roll ever put to tape.

The Book Slave   |

The Black Keys Brothers

As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for November 2012, The Black Key‘s Brothers is on sale for only $5.

If you would like a physical copy of Brothers, the CD is available for only $9.99.

Recorded in a cinderblock building in the middle of Alabama and released in 2010, Brothers is the sixth studio album recorded by the dynamic duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney known as The Black Keys. The group’s success can be attributed to their constant touring, licensing their music to several retailers and also because they’re just that damned good. Their unique blend of rock, blues, funk, R & B, tricky beats and fuzzy optimism (yes, I can actually hear that last one) has mass appeal. The first single released from Brothers, “Tighten Up”, peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and held the number one position on the Alternative Songs chart for 10 weeks. This MP3 also comes with a digital booklet. So much awesome for only $5!

Dark Souls Image

There’s no denying that Dark Souls, the game developed by Japanese company From Software, is one of the hardest ever created. It can be viciously infuriating, yet the sense of accomplishment in conquering it makes it a must play for most who call themselves gamers, and not just those with an affinity for self-torment.

In an exceptional re-imagining of the game, someone has created a magazine ad for the arcade version of Dark Souls, complete with some screenshots of memorable moments/enemies from the game. You can check it out below.

‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Star Josh Hutcherson On What Audiences Will See In IMAX

Catching Fire

The action sequences for The Hunger Games weren’t necessarily the best mostly because of the shaky camera scenes and jarring transitions. Hopefully director Francis Lawrence can learn from those mistakes and create a more fluid action sequence that is easier on the eyes. Lawrence is currently overseeing production for the film and as it gets closer to wrapping up shooing, one of the film’s stars, Josh Hutcherson, is speaking out about what we will see and how it will look on IMAX.

We’ve recently learned that some of the film’s action sequences will be shot using IMAX cameras. The success of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and the final two films of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy has set a trend for blockbuster films to use the technology in its rawest form.

Justice League

With WB setting their sights on releasing Justice League in the near future, it would be plausible to assume that Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel is a part of the superhero ensemble. The director has gone from denying that his Superman is a part of the Justice League to responding with diverting answers.

But in a recent interview, Snyder has said something very interesting that may lead us to believe that we will be seeing something that will lead up to Justice League in Man of Steel.
