A snail that dreams of being as fast as a NASCAR race car is perhaps the most clique thing ever. Obviously it can work as some sort of inspiration/motivational story for a younger audience, and thankfully DreamWorks Animation saw the potential in that and created Turbo.
The film centers on a snail (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) who dreams of racing in the big leagues. And the trailer leads you to believe he can do it up until the end that is. Of course this being a teaser, there isn’t a whole lot to get into. Check out the first trailer and synopsis for Turbo below.
It seems very appropriate to have Cake’s “Going the Distance” and Cliff Martinez‘s track from the Drive soundtrack included in this trailer. It actually sets the tone of the trailer and possibly the film quite nicely.
The film also features the voices of: Paul Giamatti, Michael Peña, Luis Guzman, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. Directed by David Soren, 20th Century Fox will release Turbo into theaters in 3D on July 19th, 2013.
Here’s the official synopsis:
From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, Turbo is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.
