Seth MacFarline‘s Ted has proven that with a great script you can transform that cute and cuddly Teddy Bear into anything you want. So we got a hilarious foulmouthed inebriated Teddy Bear walking amongst us, and as a result it was a global hit.
Now it looks like Dwayne “˜The Rock’ Johnson wants a piece of that action, but instead of a drunken teddy bear, he wants one that defends young children against nightmares. Hit the jump to see where the actor found his inspiration.
If a teddy bear defending his owner against a nightmare sounds familiar, it’s because it is. Johnson is reuniting with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island producer Beau Flynn to make a film based on a Deviant Art image that depicts a teddy bear wielding a wooden sword and defending its owner against the likes of a large vicious looking dragon or nightmare.
THR reports that New Line has acquired the rights to the Sweet Halloween Dreams piece, which was illustrated by Alex Panagopoulos. You can check out more of his artwork on his deviant art page. His piece went on to be the inspiration for the motivation-poster that uses the same image with the caption: “Teddy Bears: Protecting innocent children from monsters-under-the-bed since 1902.”
Sounds like a really fun premise and it could be a great film if it had a great script.

Awesome!
I love the image and I’m glad the artist is getting noticed.

Get Denzel Washington in on the action as well. Kevin Hart for comic relief.
