Principal photography has begun for DreamWorks Studios’ The Fifth Estate, an upcoming movie telling the story of the controversial website WikiLeaks.

The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Daniel Bruhl as Daniel Domscheit-Berg, Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander, and Carice van Houten.

To kick off the start of filming, DreamWorks has released the first official image of Cumberbatch from the movie, which you can check out above (click for bigger).

Cumberbatch is the star of the hit BBC series Sherlock and will be seen playing the villain of J.J. Abrams highly anticipated blockbuster sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness. He’s also been seen in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, War Horse, and Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.

The Fifth Estate will be released on November 15, 2013…just in time for awards season. Too early to lock in Mr. Cumberbatch for his first Oscar?
