Don’t go and get too elated, fans of Rocksteady’s Batman video games, but there’s a chance that a new game in the series is on the way…possibly even this very year.
Warner Brothers recently held a meeting to discuss quarter four of 2012 and how the company is looking for 2013. Among the lengthy transcript of the meeting that was released, chief financial officer and chief administrative officer John Martin said that the next game in the “Batman Arkham” franchise will arrive this year, which obviously be good for them.
Here’s the full quote from Martin:
And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.
There’s of course the chance that this is another game—Batman Arkham 3, or whatever it ends up being called, has not been officially announced yet—but it does raise some eyebrows when a top guy in the company says “…will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise.”
VG247 claims to have sources that say that Rocksteady is not in fact working on a sequel to Batman: Arkham City yet, and that it could be a rumored “Silver Age” Batman prequel game, but nothing is officially confirmed yet.
Batman: Arkham Asylum was released in August of 2009 and Arkham City followed in October of ’11, so it’s not completely insane to wonder if a third game is planned for fall of 2013.
Do you think Rocksteady is working on a new Arkham game? If so, where do you hope to see them take the game?
