Guardians of the Galaxy is well on its way to getting ready to start the early stages of production. The James Gunn-directed film already has Chris Pratt signed on to play Star-Lord, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are rumored to be in talks to play either Groot or Rocket Raccoon, and they have an animated idea of how they want audiences to see the gun-touting critter. That basically leaves the roles of Drax the Destoryer and Gamora up for grabs.
Well it looks like Conan and Game Of Thrones star Jason Momoa has pulled ahead of names like Isiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick, and claimed the role.
Latino Review was the first to break the news of the casting. Since Thanos appeared towards the end of The Avengers, it was clear that Marvel Studios was ready to go beyond planet Earth and the world of Asgard. Guardians of the Galaxy would be their first film set directly in space.
Originally Drax was a human named Art Douglas, but after being killed by Thanos, who also kidnapped his daughter, Douglas was resurrected as the alien Drax. Drax has immense physical strength and is very skilled with knives. He also possesses the ability to sense Thanos’ presence and has a physic detection of others. However, his sole purpose is to kill Thanos, and seeing how Thanos is rumored to fit into The Avengers 2, it could be possible that The Guardians of the Galaxy fail to defeat or kill Thanos in their film adaptation.
But Drax is robbed of his quest to kill and goes on to kill Thanos’ killer. As his rage grew so did his strength. Think of this as the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s version of the Hulk.
Momoa makes plenty of sense from a physical standpoint. Sure Conan and Bullet to the Head may not have fared well at the box office, but his role in Game Of Thrones should be more than enough to prove he is worthy of the role of Drax.
So what do you think? Is Jason Momoa perfect for the role?

I was hoping Batista would land the role.
