With Jurassic Park IV currently scheduled for a June of 2014 release date, fans should be catching a spell of dinosaur fever again in the near future.

But if you cannot wait that long, it’s worth reminding everyone that the original Jurassic Park is being re-released in theaters next month with a 3D makeover. We’ve already seen a trailer for the re-release, and now comes a pair of TV spots to help build excitement for what was and will always be one of the best movie experiences ever created.

There’s this familiar feeling I got after reading the first two issues of the Image Comics series Mara that I couldn’t put my finger on, which is funny because the premise of the book – a beautiful athlete in the future competes in professional volleyball – has been praised for being unique. And it certainly is, but I realized that the book was reminding me of David Foster Wallace’s notorious tome Infinite Jest, the 1,100 page novel being set largely in a tennis academy where young people train to compete in a media landscape vastly different then the one we know. The novel and the comic also have a captivating protagonist with some sort of shameful secret and peripherally circling both of them are an array of bizarre human beings with their own askewed political agendas. Look, it’s far, far from a being a perfect parallel, like I said, but there’s just something there that brings it to my mind.

Now with Mara, things take a much different turn (let me quickly throw up a **SPOILER WARNING** for issues 1 and 2 for this upcoming paragraph)…

Kick-Ass started a new generation of heroes who possess no superhuman powers but the passion to project the city. It may not have been the box office smash Lionsgate hoped it would be, but it made just enough for a sequel to be green lit. The thing is, Lionsgate isn’t behind this film any more, nor is the film’s first director Matthew Vaughn. Instead, Universal Pictures will distribute Kick-Ass 2, with Never Back Down director Jeff Wadlow steering the ship.

By the looks of the new trailer that has popped up, things haven’t changed for Aaron Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Johnson still plays Kick-Ass, a hero with semi-delusions of grandeur. Moretz plays Hit Girl, a hostile teenager, who acts much older than her age. Their actions have inspired the people of the city to become heroes like them. But Mintz-Plasse’s Mother F***er plans to take revenge on the two heroes who took his crime lord father’s life, by assembling the most bad ass super villains in the city.

Clive Burr, who was the original drummer for the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of 56 from complications from Multiple Sclerosis. His former band members report that the drummer died peacefully in his sleep at home on March 12, 2013.

Burr joined the legendary group in 1979. Iron Maiden was and remains to this day one of the more high profile bands of the New Wave of British Metal during the late 1970s. Burr had lent his drum talents to the first three Iron Maiden albums, which are still regarded by Maiden fans around the world as some of the band’s best musical achievements: the self-titled Iron Maiden debut album, Killers, and The Number of the Beast. Those first two albums also sported the original singer Paul Di’Anno, who was later replaced by the soaring high-pitched vocalist Bruce Dickinson. By the time of The Number of the Beast, the band was on the crest of achieving worldwide success and legendary status as a Heavy Metal unit.

Many times have I’ve read a book and thought that it would make a great comic. But never before have I read a comic that I felt really could have been an epic book – and Ravine is definitely that comic! I’m talking about a whole worldview that is set up here. It’s not just bits and pieces but there’s even a significant amount of history written up for it. This was obviously a massive undertaking.

There is an initial historic lead-in that establishes a volatile past but that quickly segues into the first of a multitude of storylines. I won’t get into them all, but there are several main characters that have important roles to play in this first graphic novel. From the cocky adventurer (and spirit led) Stein, who has more luck than sense but backs up his plays with some potent magic, to newly trained dragonrider Lynn, who isn’t the orphan everyone thinks she is. Throw in Valerius, the most recent Dragonlord, and you get a cast that will definitely find trouble…if it doesn’t find them first. Little do they know they are but pawns in a bigger game, one that is being orchestrated by someone thought long dead…someone who wants to rebuild that which they lost.
