After being overshadowed by Marvel Studios for some odd years, WB and DC comics are ready to launch their own cinematic universe with Justice League. The problem is that the script written by Will Beal has been scrapped, we don’t know if Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is the first step into the Justice League movie, and WB is keeping a tight lid on the development of the long-gestating film.
But know WB president Jeff Robinov has revealed that Man of Steel is “definitely a first step†into getting a Justice League movie into development.
In an interview with EW, Robinov said that Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight trilogy is definitely a standalone franchise and has no relation to the Justice League film.
“I think you’ll see that, going forward, anything can live in this world,†he said. “[Nolan’s] Batman was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world they lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of any other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.â€
In addition, the WB president revealed that both Nolan and Christian Bale, who starred as Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy, will not be a part of Justice League. With Nolan busy with Intersellar, that notion makes a lot of sense.
Despite that loss, there is some positive things to come out of Man of Steel. Here’s how Robinov describes the upcoming film:
“It’s setting the tone for what the movies are going to be like going forward. In that, Man of Steel is definitely a first step. [Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies] were deliberately and smartly positioned as a standalone. The world [the films] lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.”
Robinov had this to say about seeing other DC heroes in their own films:
“We’ll announce something in the next several weeks that will hopefully position the DC characters and the movies we’re going to be makingâ€
So there you have it. Man of Steel is just the first step into the long-awaited superhero team film and there will be a huge announcement in the coming weeks.
