The ever-busy Guillermo del Toro is developing yet another project, this one as a potential new series for HBO.

The project is titled Monster, and is based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Naoki Urasawa. It follows a doctor who’s on a worldwide search for a 12-year-old boy he once saved—a boy that also happens to be one of the most evil psychopaths ever to exist, and who’s planning to commit mass genocide if the doctor doesn’t find and stop him.

Del Toro, as usual, will also be writing the script for the pilot with Sherlock and Doctor Who writer Steve Thompson, and plans to direct it as well.

Monster was originally set up at New Line Cinema, but it was decided that it was too big to confine to a movie. The manga was also adapted into a 74-episode anime series that ran on NTV from April 7, 2004 to September 28, 2005.
