Michael B. Jordan Rumored To Play Johnny Storm In Josh Trank’s ‘Fantastic Four’

Michael B Jordan Header

Before Andrew Garfield signed on to play as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, Donald Glover was rumored to play as the webslinging hero. That was as close as we got to an actor of color playing a lead character who is normally portrayed as a Caucasian. Now we are a step closer to breaking the comic book color barrier with this latest rumor.

Josh Trank is currently in the casting phase of the Fantastic Four reboot. One of the biggest casting rumors to circulate is that Allison Williams (HBO’s Girls) will play Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman. Now there is a report from The Wrap indicating that Chronicle star Michael B. Williams could play Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch, a character who has long been recognized as white.

Now this is just a rumor, but according to The Wrap, Jordan has been in numerous meetings with Fox about being involved in the new Fantastic Four movie.

Jordan is a fantastic actor. Pun intended. The actor has had starring roles on hit shows like Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, and has taken his talents to the film business by starring in Trank’s Chronicle and the Sundance hit Fruitvale Station.

The Storms are traditionally known as siblings, so how this casting could affect the character dynamics of the film is not known. But if this is the direction the film is going for, then I’m sure that Jeremy Slater‘s script will address it. Seth Grahame-Smith penned the rewrites, and Matthew Vaughn is producing.

Fantastic Four is scheduled to open in theaters on March 6, 2015.

  1. Comic book color barrier?? So let’s make a movie with Falcon and Luke Cage..but wait, we’re casting James Marsters and Dave Buatista for the roles.

Michael B. Williams as Johnny Storm? So who is adopted? Johnny or Sue?

  6. “woah is us”? hahaha.

does it really matter? is their ethnicity central to the storyline? this could be explained away with a couple of sentences. or is the concept of bi racial families beyond you?
