The first domestic trailer for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End gives us another look at the final installment of the director’s comedic pseudo-trilogy, better known as the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy. Each of those films covered a particular genre and gave it a comedic twist. Shaun of the Dead was a zombies, while Hot Fuzz was police/action, now The World’s End focuses on an entirely different genre, one that has apocalyptic implications. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite with Wright for a third time, and they are joined by Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, and Eddie Marsan.
Check out the new trailer below.
The trailer has all sort of hysterical moments, and a few subtle nods to Wright’s previous Blood and Ice Cream trilogy installments. But then there are the visual effects cues, which will surely be interesting to see given that there will be a lot of visual effects being used in Ant-Man. But so much of the film reminds us of what makes Wright’s comedy so great and makes us keeping coming back for more.
Rosamund Pike also stars. The World’s End opens in US theaters on August 23.
Here’s a synopsis:
Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
