SDCC 2013: ‘Game Of Thrones’ Themed San Diego Trolley Signs Are In Dothraki

Game of Thrones Title Image

I would think that if you’re not one of the over 150,000 people converging upon San Diego, CA, for its annual Comic-Con, I would think all non-convention-going travelers would steer clear of the Pacific coast city. But after a family of six dining at San Diego’s Hard Rock Cafe asked me yesterday what this big thing in town that seemed to be going on was, I realized that my presumptions were wrong. There are visitors here that are not going to Comic-Con, and boy do I feel bad for them.

Not only will non-Con visitors find the streets crowded and restaurants full, but if they’re traveling by city trolley, they’ll have to familiarize themselves with Dothraki, because for the five days of the convention, the city has changed the trolley signs to the fictional language from HBO’s Game of Thrones.

See below for a photo I took of one of the signs written in Dothraki, located across the street from the convention center.

X-Men: Days of Future Past Trask Industries Sentinels

While 20th Century Fox has a panel scheduled at San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday, the studio has yet to reveal what they’ll be promoting that day in the convention center’s main auditorium, Hall H. But if you’re in the area of the convention center near the Hard Rock Hotel, you’ll see that Fox has an exhibit set up outside that features some viral marketing for their upcoming X-Men sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The exhibit is a booth for Trask Industries, creator of The Sentinels, the massive robotic mutant hunters and deadly foes of the X-Men. On display was Bolivar Trask’s “crowning achievement,” the original Sentinel Mark I production model. Around the booth were propaganda posters decrying that mutants as the enemy and showing off the Sentinel army as the way to fight the “mutant threat.”

You can see photos of the Sentinel head, along with the posters as well as the Trask Industries flyer given out at the exhibit.

The Crow Reboot teaser

The folks over at Shock Till You Drop have debuted a Comic-Con exclusive teaser poster for Javier Gutierrez‘s reboot of Alex Proyas’ 1994 film The Crow. The poster features the art of James O’Barr, creator of 1989’s The Crow comic book.

Check out the poster here below.

As the poster declares, The Crow will begin shooting in 2014.

During the convention, STYD had a chance to speak to Gutierrez, who is directing the reboot for Relativity, and O’Barr, who reportedly recently came onto the project as a creative consultant. O’Barr’s involvement is definitely a good sign, considering how long the project has been in development hell. (You can look back in our archives to see how many directors, writers, and studios its been through already, as well as lawsuits and possible lead actors).
