Channing Tatum Says He Would Like To Play Gambit Using A Real Cajun Accent

Channing Tatum‘s roles have varied over the years, from dancer to G.I. Joe to undercover cop to White House Secret Service Agent. But there is one role he is just itching to take one: the role of a superhero.
In the same overseas White House Down junket, Tatum was asked if he would like to “get in” on the role of a superhero. Tatum excitedly said yes. He then added if he had his pick, he would play Gambit, because of his family ties to New Orleans.
As pointed out in the video here below, Tatum doesn’t have much experience in the superhero genre, but then again, neither did Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Andrew Garfield, or Hugh Jackman, and look how they turned out. Here’s Tatum explaining why he would like to play Gambit:
I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. […] Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.
Well at least he acknowledged that Taylor Kitsch played Gambit. The X-Men film franchise has had its history of changing actors for certain roles, which really didn’t help with the chronology. Despite that minor discrepancy, there is no indication that Fox has even approached Tatum – or Kitsch for that matter – about playing Gambit in any upcoming X-Men film.
But what do you think? Would Tatum be the right fit for Gambit?
