Fans have been fighting for more Firefly since the show was canceled far too prematurely by Fox. We’ve seen a movie, Serenity, and various comics released focusing on the characters Joss Whedon created and their origins or bridging the TV series to the movie.
While the fight to see the TV series return (or at the very least a couple of straight-to-video movies) continues, a new Serenity comic is on the way from Dark Horse that will offer something fans have not seen since the movie, and that is a continuation of the story.
Keep reading for more on where the story picks up (spoilers if you’ve not yet watched…in which case why?!) and to see a couple of preview images from the new comic.
The first hint at the new comic came last month when Dark Horse started releasing some teases like the one seen above and this one.
Here’s a description of the new comic from Comic Book Resources, who broke the story exclusively:
As the series begins, Mal and the crew are recouping from their recent strike against the sinister interplanetary government, The Alliance, in which they exposed government agencies as those responsible for the creation of the Reavers — the scourge of the universe. With River Tam in the co-pilot chair and a very pregnant Zoe reeling from the death of her husband, Wash, Mal is finding himself and his ship in greater danger than ever.
It’s unknown who’s writing the comic at the moment, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Georges Jeanty will be featured.
