Stevie Nicks To Appear On ‘American Horror Story: Coven’

Stevie Nicks live 2013

If you’re following American Horror Story: Coven, the current witch-centric season of the FX series, then you know that one of the characters, Misty, is obsessed with Stevie Nicks and refers to the singer as the “white witch,” pointing to evidence in the lyrics of the Fleetwood Mac songstress’s “Rhiannon.”

With so much Nicks being used in this third season, is it any surprise that the show has snagged the singer to make a guest appearance?!

American Horror Story co-creator posted to his Twitter account today that Nicks would be coming to Coven: “Guess who’s visiting the Coven? The legendary Stevie Nicks!”

That’s all the information Murphy has revealed at this time, but really, knowing that Nicks herself is coming is really enough excitement for one day, yes?

Back in 2012, Nicks made a cameo appearance on NBC’s Up All Night, where she sang along with star Christina Applegate.

In a recent interview with EW, Murphy said, “[Misty] is obsessed with Stevie Nicks because I am obsessed with Stevie Nicks,” which makes sense (who isn’t obsessed with Stevie???). He also revealed that he had read an article where Hole frontwoman Courtney Love called Stevie Nicks the “white witch,” which is how he got the idea to use that moniker for Nicks on America Horror Story.

Here’s more of Murphy talking about getting permission from Nicks to use her and her material in the series:

So I called Stevie Nicks and first I said, “I want to use you in the show.” But she was very resistant because from the beginning of her career people who are in the Wiccan community had given her a hard time thinking she was a witch and she got a lot of scary fan letters. She didn’t like the darkness of that, and I explained to her the part and she’s like, “Aw f””, let’s just do it. OK, I love it.” She’s not a witch, but she has an attraction to those mystical creatures because they’re fun to write about. So she gave me the rights to her music and she and Lindsay Buckingham are working on a special sort of redo of a song they did about a witch.

The first season of American Horror Story was an excellent start for the series, which got a lot darker and into torture porn for the second season. But this third season is a return to classic horror with a focus on witchcraft, and it’s the best material to date. If you’re not watching American Horror Story, check it out on Wednesdays at 10pm on the FX Network. (And don’t worry if you haven’t seen the previous seasons – each season has many of the same actors, but they are playing all new roles in a completely different setting, so you can jump right into the new season.)

And for good measure, here’s Misty doing the classic Stevie Nicks twirl:
