Recently we found out that Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke was in talks to take on the role of John Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot said to be titled Terminator: Genesis. At the time, the search to find the new Sarah Connor had come down to two actresses: Emilia Clarke (no relation), and Brie Larson.
Now the choice has been made. It’s being reported that Emilia has officially been chosen to take on the iconic Sarah Connor role, despite being almost a couple of decades younger than the actor playing the part of her son. Little is known about the movie, but obviously you can deduce that some time jumping will be going on.
Emilia was a mostly unknown actress when she landed the role of Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons, on the HBO series Game of Thrones. That job has kept her quite busy for the past few years, only doing one other project since then, the 2013 black comedy/crime drama Dom Hemingway.
In addition to the two Clarkes, the only other actor known to be involved in Terminator: Genesis is of course Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is expected to return. It’s not clear exactly how he’ll be returning, however, as it’s very hard to believe that the now-66-year-old actor will still be playing the deadly T-800 cyborg he first played when he was 37. It’s been thought for some time now that he might play the actual man whose likeness was used in designing the T-800, which would make more sense.
The movie is being directed by Alan Taylor, who directed the recent Thor: The Dark World and has directed episodes of numerous hit TV shows including Oz, Deadwood, Rome, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and Game of Thrones for HBO, as well as episodes of The West Wing, LOST, and Mad Men, just to name a few.
Fun fact: the last actress to physically play Sarah Connor was Emilia’s Game of Thrones co-star Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, on the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
What do you think of Emilia Clarke as the new Sarah Connor?
