| Remembering Lou Scheimer, Animation Pioneer & Producer Of ‘Star Trek,’ ‘He-Man’ Animated Series |

Animation mogul Lou Scheimer died a few days ago at the age of 84. For most people, even rabid fans of the man’s work, his name remains pretty much unknown. In fact, for the most part, his death was pretty much under the radar, which is a bonafide shame. Lou Scheimer was one of the original founders (along with Hal Sutherland and Norm Prescott) of Filmation, which for most children of the 1970s like me, saw as an absolute assembly line of Saturday Morning Cartoons, Fat Albert, cartoon adaptations of the Archie comics series, and the original Star Trek Animated Series (which almost had the entire original NBC-TV show cast voicing the characters) among them. For a generation weaned as youth in the 1980s, He-Man and The Masters of the Universe was the order of the day. Lou Scheimer was an executive producer on these aforementioned shows, and there’s a certain pop culture chill one gets when remembering seeing these programs as a child, accented by the instantly recognizable rotating circle logo, which was the Filmation visual brand.

| Nirvana, Deep Purple, Kiss Top List Of 2014 Nominees For Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame |

The latest roll call of the 2014 nominees for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was announced earlier this week, and as usual, the list is full of some names that are questionable, and ultimately some that are long overdue for possible inclusion in the triangular edifice, like Kiss, Deep Purple, and Yes. Nirvana seems to be the forerunner here and the absolute shoe-in to the Hall. The defunct grunge trio, which disbanded almost 20 years ago after the death of their front man, flanneled-laden Kurt Cobain, was on the apex of the entire Grunge sound movement which shot large bullet holes through the hair metal and pop music that permeated radios and CD players coast to coast when it first burst onto the scene in the early 1990s. More than just a success story, Nirvana opened an entire new lifestyle for teens in subdivisions, urban societies and pretty much every other demographic with their hard edged, yet simplistic post punk attack.

Before I get into this review, just want to give a quick history of my music history. My parents were DJs for weddings and for numerous years I worked at a Sam Goody, where I got the chance to see lots of shows and get introduced to a few new bands. My first concert was White Lion and Stryper, with my parents. Some of you are going to have to Google those bands. I would say the best way to describe my wide musical tastes is that I can sum it up with two days of music festivals: one day I went to Lilith Fair; the next day, Warped Tour. And as much as I love talking about movies and recommending them to people, every once in awhile, a band or performer comes along and I feel the need to go out and spread the word about them. I wish I could remember who first introduced me to the band Chvrches, because I would love to thank them. And perhaps after reading this review of their album Bones Of What You Believe and checking them out, you will feel the same way as me.
