Paul Bettany has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the beginning, voicing J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark’s AI butler and suit assistant in the Iron Man movies. Now the man behind the voice is about the receive one major upgrade as Bettany goes from voicing a AI butler to pivotal Avengers character, at least comic book fans hope.

The Playlist says the always reliable Daily Mail is reporting that Bettany will voice The Vision in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Vision, Ultron’s robotic creation, originated as a villain who eventually turns on his creator and joins the Avengers. This isn’t the first time the actor has been attached to play the character. There were rumors that J.A.R.V.I.S. would help Iron Man in a larger capacity by being upgraded to The Vision.

Ant-Man, aka Hank Pym, was Ultron’s creator in the comics, but with Joss Whedon using the character as the titular villain, there will be new origins story for Ultron that will not reflect the comics.

While the first Vision made his publication debut during the 1940s, the Vision associated with the Avengers debuted during the 1960s. The Visions most notable powers are density control ranging from invulnerability to intangibility, utilizing phasing into beings/objects then solidifying as a means of molecular disruption, flight, computer/IT network interfacing, superhuman strength, and self-repair.

Again, as much as we want this to be real, let’s not read too much into this considering the source is The Daily Mail.

UPDATE: This news has now been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, and Bettany has officially signed on to play Vision.
