During Sunday’s season finale of The Walking Dead, viewers got another tantalizing glimpse at this summer’s super simian sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in the form of the film’s first television spot.
So what makes this spot worth watching? Three words: APES ON HORSEBACK! I fell in love the moment a massive gate opened to show us ape leader Caesar (Andy Serkis) and some of his loyal followers sitting atop noble steeds and geared up for some serious stuff to start. The visual effects work in this film could do the unthinkable and easily surpass the technical accomplishments of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
You can check it out here below.
Dawn is looking mighty epic with each release of a trailer or TV promo. The Planet of the Apes franchise is one of my favorite film series in existence and the footage we’ve seen thus far gives me great hope that the property is in the best of hands. With any hope Dawn will also fulfill Conan O’Brien’s “In the Year 2000” prediction and give us horses on apeback as well. Hey, let me have my dream.
Directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and co-starring Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Jason Clarke, and Judy Greer, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will open in theaters on July 11, 2014.
