A pair of actresses are in talks to join The Jungle Book, Disney’s upcoming live-action/CG hybrid take on the classic Rudyard Kipling story.
According to reports, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron star Scarlett Johansson and recent Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o are both in talks to join the movie, Nyong’o being in final negotiations while Johansson is earlier in discussions.
If deals are signed and sealed, Johansson would voice the python with hypnotic abilities named Kaa, while Nyong’o would voice the mother wolf who adopts Mowgli, Raksha.
Johansson and Nyong’o would join Idris Elba, who’s already been locked in to voice the villainous tiger Shere Khan, on the cast.
The movie is being helmed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, and is currently scheduled for an October 29, 2015 release date.
Warner Brothers is also working on their own competing adaptation of The Jungle Book with Andy Serkis directing.
