Back in September it was first reported that Marvel Studios had begun developing a new Agent Carter television series for ABC based on the seriously well-received One-Shot short film of the same name that first appeared on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray. Five months, later news broke that Reaper creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekashad been hired to serve as both writers and executive producers on the latest expansion of the Marvel TV empire.
Recently – just in case some of you were beginning to wonder if this show was really happening – Marvel released the first details regarding Agent Carter‘s storyline, which will undoubtedly expand on the One-Shot.
“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”
In addition to Butters and Fazekas, Agent Carter will be executive produced by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (screenwriters of the first two Captain America films), Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito (director of the One-Shot), and Heroes/Smallville producer Jeph Loeb. Loeb has also served as an executive producer on many animated shows based on Marvel properties as well as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the studio’s upcoming Netflix offering AKA Jessica Jones.
Agent Carter is gaining steam with each day, but will likely not make the cut for the network’s Fall season. However, it could always end up as a mid-season replacement. Here’s hoping.
