Kickstarter Spotlight: Toe Tag Riot

Most of the time, these Kickstarter Spotlights are pretty straightforward. Someone wants to bring their project to light through crowdfunding by offering rewards and incentives. But every once in a while one of them is about more than a movie or a comic (or whatever they are doing). Toe Tag Riot is one of these that seeks to be a bit more than what it appears at face value. Not content with merely being a comic book, it seeks to make a point by changing up perspectives and vilifying those who seek to do an injustice to others. Stay with me here while I break it all down for you.

Toe Tag Riot will center itself around a punk band and is set in the early 2000s. And if being a struggling band isn’t enough, these musicians have been cursed. Yeah, you read that right. Cursed. Every time they play they temporarily turn into zombies. And like many of the punk bands before them, they celebrate diversity and individualism. In fact, they downright refuse to indulge their new-found flesh-eating appetites on the average person and concentrate on “snacking” on those they consider to be “second class” citizens. Because while much of the public might demonize the LGBTQ communities, Toe Tag Riot defends them by feasting on the bullies and bigots of the world at large. Focusing on groups such as Nazi Skinheads, Million Moms, and the Westboro Baptist Church, this is more of a tongue in cheek look at how it would be if turnabout was fair play! There’s even a showdown with Westboro that is sure to upset and anger a lot of folks. And while this is most assuredly satire, there is a message here that shouldn’t be too hard to understand.

With Matt Miner penning the series and Sean Von Gorman on art, this horror-comedy is going to be a riot! See what I did there? They also have John Rauch on colors and the covers are being handled by Tristan Jones and Doug Garbark. These guys have got a ton of experience on a wide range of comics that will be sure to please. They aren’t planning to overthrow the government here, but they are trying to get at least a few people to open their eyes to the hate that exists everywhere in the world today. So why not help them spread the word and donate a few bucks? And if the good deed isn’t enough, how about some incentives?

I won’t call them bribes but rather I’ll refer to them as rewards, that way we can all sleep better at night, right? But seriously, they have a ton of prizes available at different pledge levels to entice us to help fund the Kickstarter. Like seven bucks getting your name in the first issue and even receiving a digital copy of it! Fifteen bucks gets you the signed physical edition, the thank you, plus a sticker, and postcard! Forty is the comic and t-shirt level with lots of extras, too! But if you like original art, this is the right time to pledge. The team has a assembled a plethora of artists to convince you to part with your money in exchange for some wicked cool artwork. Check out the official Kickstarter page for the specifics because there is too much to list here!

But wait! There’s more! Andrew Hurley from Fall Out Boy is being zombified for the series and will appear in it as an ongoing character! Now come on, you know you want to see this series. Don’t lie, it looks pretty funny and sounds damn cool, doesn’t it? Well the only way it will make its way to you is if you pledge a few bucks and grab one of these awesome rewards. Check out the video below and then head over to the official Kickstarter page to check it all out and make a donation! There are only a few days left so don’t delay! It ends the morning of Saturday, June 21, 2014! Now go rock their world and drop some cash on this project.
