The GoD List Banner

Each and every week, I, “Time for Pie!” Henchman 21 and “Pie!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of November 26, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Well, it’s another Thanksgiving week in the US and that means it’s time to dig into a big helping of pie and also comics. As always, there are lots of good comics out there and there are sure to be plenty of good sales going on at your local comic store, so go out there and burn off some of those Thanksgiving calories by walking the aisles and spinning some racks. And let’s all give thanks to The GoD List!

Henchman 21

Ody-C cover by Christian Ward

ODY-C #1 (Image Comics – $3.99) Take Homer’s The Odyssey, throw it into the future, make Odysseus a female and add in a pinch of psychedelia, and that’s what you get with Matt Fraction and Christian Ward’s new Image series Ody-C. For some reason science fiction is big at Image these days, with more than a few series launching in the last year or so, and I for one am totally happy about it. I’m kind of hit or miss on Matt Fraction’s work, but the psychedelic angle on this makes me think this could be like Casanova, which is the Fraction I like. Once again, Image looks to have another hit on their hands with a comic that is not your traditional fare.

Lazarus #13 (Image Comics – $3.50) Buy it because it’s awesome and because I told you to. I don’t care if this is square in the middle of a story line, you should still buy it.

Flash Gordon Annual 2014 (Dynamite Entertainment – $7.99) I’ve told you more than a few times that you should be buying Dynamite Entertainment’s Flash Gordon because it is one of the most fun comics out that and it features fantastic art from Doc Shaner and Jordie Bellaire, but I’m guessing some of you might not have picked it up yet. Shame on you. If you still haven’t bought an issue of Flash Gordon, then you should pick up this annual to get a feel of what the series is like with five stories focusing on different characters in the regular series or you can stop being a punk and buy an issue of the regular series already.

Gotham by Midnight (DC Comics – $2.99) Of the new or re-launched Batman series of the last few months (Gotham Academy, Batgirl) Gotham by Midnight is the one I have been most looking forward to. Ray Fawkes and Ben Templesmith team up to tell the new adventures of Jim Corrigan, the once and future Spectre. It’s the art of Templesmith that I am interested in, as I don’t recall him ever having done work for DC before, I mostly know him for his creator owned projects. Templesmith has one of those totally unique art styles that is instantly recognizable as his style and is perfect for a supernatural story like this. It is dark and heavily inked while having a distortion to the characters that makes everything feel off, but is perfect when that is the mood you’re going for. Gotham by Midnight is another DC series where they seem to be going for a different look and feel to some of their other comics, and that is something I’m always interested in reading.
