Julia Roberts will produce and star in Batkid Begins, a feature film based on the Dana Nachman documentary Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around The World.
The documentary, which is scheduled to make its world premiere tomorrow, Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, UT, follows the real-life story of BatKid Miles Scott, the 5-year-old boy suffering from leukemia who made headlines in 2013 when the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted his wish to become Batman for the day.
The foundation transformed San Francisco, CA, into Batman’s home town of Gotham City for event, with little Batkid accompanied by an adult Batman visiting several areas of town where thousands of people came out to help Miles be a real superhero for the day.
Roberts (August: Osage County) will produce the feature film along with partners Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through their Red Om Films banner, with Nachman serving as one of the executive producers. Josh and Dan Braun of Submarine will also executive produce under Submarine’s new remake label Sub/Version, which is launching at Sundance; Batkid Begins will be the first title launched from Sub/Version. No word yet what role Roberts will play in the film, but with a heartwarming story like this and Roberts at the forefront, you know it will not only make you cry, but likely earn the actress another Oscar nomination.
