Kevin Bacon Footloose confetti dance

One of the questions posed to James Gunn in a recent Facebook fan Q&A was what was Kevin Bacon‘s reaction to being referenced in the director’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Gunn said the actor loved it.

Turns out, Bacon did love it and the film as a whole as well.

During an recent interview promoting his new film Cop Car, which is currently at the Sundance Film Festival, Bacon said Guardians Of The Galaxy was one of the best movies of the year.

Watch the video here below of THR’s interview with Bacon and the cast of Cop Car, as well as a clip from Guardians that references the actor and his 1984 film Footloose.

Here’s the direct quote from Bacon when asked about being a pop culture reference:

“Whether I was mentioned in the movie or not, in my opinion, it’s one of the best movies of the year. I loved it. And I haven’t talked to anybody who didn’t love it.”

Marvel’s scifi superhero film Guardians Of The Galaxy is filled with pop culture references, especially to the 1980s, which is the time when Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) was growing up on Earth. After being abducted from his home world, Star-Lord clings to his fading, somewhat skewed childhood memories of things like the movie Footloose, where Kevin Bacon starred as a Chicago teen who shakes things up after he moves to a small religious town where dancing and rock music have been banned. In Guardians, after Gamora says that she doesn’t dance, Star-Lord tells her of a tale from his home planet, the “Legend of Footloose,” in which a great hero named Kevin Bacon teaches an entire city of people with “sticks up their butts” that dancing is the greatest thing there is.

It’s not a surprise that Bacon would dig being referred to like that, especially in one of the biggest movies of 2014.

Last year, for the 30th anniversary of Footloose, Bacon reenacted his dance moves from the film on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

The actor, who played the villainous mutant Sebastian Shaw in Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 film X-Men: First Class, has starred in the Fox television crime drama The Following since its premiere in January 2013 and will return for a third season this March.
